Revitalization will ensure essential renovations are completed that will improve the livability of the community, buildings and homes while also honoring the historic integrity of the community and The Resident Plan.
Will residents be permanently displaced as a result of the revitalization?
No. No resident in good standing will be permanently displaced as a result of the revitalization. Residents can return to their home once the revitalization of their building is complete.
Will residents be allowed to return to their homes?
Yes, residents can return to their homes once revitalization of their building is complete. All residents in good standing will have the right to return.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the revitalization?
Stay informed on updates and communications regarding the revitalization process. Attend resident meetings to provide input and stay engaged. What is Section 8 housing?
Section 8 housing, also known as the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, is a federal program that helps low-income families and individuals pay rent. The program’s goal is to ensure that low-income people have access to safe and sanitary housing. Golden Gate Village will convert from public housing to Section 8 housing, which will provide the funding necessary to complete the revitalization and also ensure it remains affordable rental housing for low-income households.
Will the revitalization impact my rent?
No, the revitalization will be completed at no cost to residents! Residents will continue to pay 30% of their adjusted income towards rent and utilities. Annual income recertification will ensure continued fairness and affordability.
Am I guaranteed the same home I currently live in?
Yes! Residents in good standing will sign new Project Based Voucher leases, ensuring their right to return to their home. Make sure all household members are listed on your current lease.
What does in “good standing” mean?
Being in “good standing” means complying with your lease terms, including paying rent on time, providing all required annual recertification documents and avoiding any conduct that violates the current lease agreement. Residents in good standing are guaranteed to return to their home after revitalization of their home is complete.
I’ve been struggling with rent, what assistance programs are available?
We understand financial challenges happen. MHA offers payment plans and connects residents to job training through the Golden Gate Village Resident Empowerment Fund and nonprofit partners.
